ABOUT KARL PENNEY

A native to Ballydehob, Co.Cork, Ireland. Karl has 17 years experience as a professional drummer. His Dad (also a professional drummer) resulted in there always being a drum kit set up around the house for him to learn on.

At the age of 19 he moved to Liverpool to study and focus on his craft at the 'Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts'
He graduated there in 2004 with a BA (hons) music.

Since then he has been working with such acts as Liam Bailey, Candie Payne (Mark Ronson), Hannah Peel, Luke Ritchie, Ayumi Hamasaki, Vagabond, Sandi Thom, Lou Rhodes (Lamb), John Power (Cast, The La's), Colin Vearncombe (Black), Joe Worricker, Delilah, Maveric Sabre, Brit Floyd.

Played live at venues such as 'The Royal Albert Hall, Wembley Arena, The o2, Shepherds Bush Empire, Hammersmith Apollo, Red Rocks, The Greek. Played festivals such as 'Glastonbury, T in the park, V, Bestival, Electric Picnic, Isle of Wight and Latitude'.

Recorded at studios such as 'Abbey road, Parr street studios, Metropolis, Konk, Eden, Elevator, Bryn Derwen, Chem 19, Ape.

He has also recorded under such labels as 'EMI, Sony, Universal, Geffen, Delta Sonic, Rough Trade, Real World, Warner and Polydor' and worked with producers such as 'Dan Austin (Doves, Cherry Ghost) Brian Higgins (Girls Aloud, Sugar Babes, Cher, Kylie Minogue) Simon Dine (Paul Weller) George Shilling (Steve Winwood) Paul Savage (Franz Ferninand, Arab Strap) MIke Lindsay (Tunng) Bill Leader (Bert Jansch, Davey Graham, John renbourn) Jimmy Robertson (Plan B, Florence and the machine, Anna Calvi, Tricky) David Wrench (The guillamots, Bat for Lashes) amongst others..

Lessons

Karl has been teaching for over 20 years. He has taught students from complete beginners (ranging from ages 7-70 years old) to professional drummers in signed bands wanting to brush up on their skills before recording or going on the road.

All lessons are tailored towards you own individual needs and learning styles. The saying ‘You get out what you put into it’ is very true. A little guidance down the right path can really help and speed up the learning process though.

The most important thing is to enjoy learning the drums whether this is as a hobby or working toward it as a profession.
